Why should we pray?

Speaker: HH Radhanath Swami
Source: Krishna knows everything

child-prayingWhy should we pray if God already knows everything? If He already knows our thoughts, why should we say anything? Because, life is about reciprocation, love is about reciprocation. Yes, the Lord knows our heart and the Lord knows our mind, but it pleases the Lord when by our free will we express ourselves—with the proper intention, proper honesty and integrity. And the Lord will reciprocate! When we offer prayers with sincerity, we enter into the presence of Lord; our lives are transformed.

Real enjoyment

Speaker:  Srila Prabhupada
Source: Subtle Cosmic Button-pusher

1472736_661160550600985_1229478419_nActually, the enjoyment is in my mind. That is not enjoyment. That is not enjoyment. Real enjoyment is when I am free from this embodiment of five elements, gross elements, and three subtle elements. I have entered into this, and the action and reaction of these five gross elements, three subtle elements, I am enjoying. Actually, not enjoying. This is called maya. There is no enjoyment. It is enjoyment in the mind. The mind is also material creation. Real enjoyment is beyond these senses.

We are controlled God

Even great demigods like Lord Brahma, Lord Siva, they also subordinate to Krsna. They offer their obeisances to Krsna. Siva-virinci-nutam. And in the Brahma-samhita it is confirmed by Brahma: isvarah paramah krsnah (BS.5.1). Isvara. Everyone can be an isvara. Isvara means controller. So we are also controller of something. A business man is controller of his business; I am controller of my disciples. There are so many controllers. So

Why bad things happen to good people

UdDGTv0-LJcThe Supersoul, Visvatma, He’s one. But because we are different, therefore we are acting differently. The question may be raised that if Visvatma, the Supersoul, is one, why there are different activities? The different activities due to our will, our selection: “I want to act in this way.” So He gives the facility. Just like somebody wants to drink, the government gives license for liquor shop. Now, it is not that everyone is drinking, but there is facility for the drunkards. Because the

Lord’s expert supervision

Speaker:  Srila Prabhupada
Source: Oneness Is Variety

banner2The whole creation is going on under the direction of Krsna. That is also stated in the Bhagavad-gita: mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram (BG. 9.10). Under His supervision… Just imagine how expert supervision is there, that the sun is rising exactly in the same moment as it is to be done. The waves of the sea are going on perpetually, but the waves cannot come beyond the limit. We have walked on the sea beach. So just at ten, one, three feet, the

Lord – The expert accountant

Speaker:  Srila Prabhupada
Source: Oneness Is Variety

Just imagine how many numberless there are living entities. Asankhya. Jiva-bhago sa vijneyah sa canantyaya kalpate. There is no, you cannot… Innumerable. And each and every individual soul is doing according to his own desires and every account is kept. Just imagine how expert accountant is required. Every account is kept. Because He has to be offered again another body, taking account of his activities. Karmana daiva-netrena. He’s acting. Innumerable living entities. So how big brain is Krsna, you can just imagine. And not only one planet — there are innumerable planets,

Two birds on the tree

So both the living entity, and the Supersoul is sitting on the same tree. This body is supposed to be the tree, and the heart is supposed to be the nest. And in the nest, as there are two birds, similarly, there is one bird, the living entity, individual, and the Supersoul, both. One is eating the fruit; the other is simply observing, witnessing. Anumanta upadrasta. Anumanta means “giving order.” Just like a child wants to

The original candle

Source: SB 3.21.32 Purport

KartikDamodarMaas28There are different manifestations of the Lord. He is one, but He has become many. He divides Himself into two different expansions, one called kalā and the other vibhinnāṁśa. Ordinary living entities are called vibhinnāṁśa expansions, and the unlimited expansions of viṣṇu-tattva, such as Vāmana, Govinda, Nārāyaṇa, Pradyumna, Vāsudeva and Ananta, are called svāṁśa-kalā. Svāṁśa refers to a direct expansion, and kalā denotes an expansion from the expansion of the original Lord. Baladeva is an expansion of Kṛṣṇa, and from Baladeva the next expansion is Saṅkarṣaṇa; thus Saṅkarṣaṇa is kalā, but Baladeva is svāṁśa. There is no difference, however, among Them.

How to beget Krsna

Speaker: Srila Prabhupada
Source: Transcendental Goodness

kumaras6Sattvam visuddham vasudeva-sabditam, there is a verse. Pure goodness. Pure goodness means there is only Vasudeva. Vasudevah sarvam iti (BG. 7.19). That is pure sattva, when there is no other conception, simply Vasudeva. Vasudeva is the platform. Just like Vasudeva was the father of Krsna. When Krsna appeared, Vasudeva was the father. So suddha-sattva is Vasudeva. Vasudeva means there is no contamination of ignorance or passion, simply sattva-guna. Tato rajas tamo bhava kama-lobhadayas ca ye, ceta etair anaviddham. When your
