It is said that "example is better than precept". You can find here stories, examples, analogies, pastimes that will help you to understand better, the spiritual subject matter found in the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. We hope that this collection will bring new light into your lives. Thank you for visiting us and we hope to hear back from you.
When Radha and Krishna wound up Their pastimes in Earth, They instructed their male parrot Suka, who is Radharani’s personal parrot, to stay back and speak the Srimad Bhagavatam. After They left Suka felt great separation for whilst Radharani was on Earth She would always speak to him about Krishna. So he was daily hearing Krishna katha. But now he was not getting any more stories or talks about Krishna and so he became very unhappy. He felt he would die. Then once he heard that Siva speaks the Bhagavatam in his abode. It so happens
So the temple is the facility how to become the first-class yogi and how to become the first-class devotee simply by increasing your attachment. This attachment, there is one example that one brahmana, he was daily seeing Lord Ramacandra and then he was breaking his fast. So Ramacandra was out of His station for some royal business. So this brahmana did not take even water seven days. So when Ramacandra returned, Laksmana informed Lord Ramacandra, “Here is Your devotee, My Lord. Because You were absent for seven days and he
This story about the sculptor, I heard three times in Srila Prabhupada’s lectures. He finds exact time he is going to die and makes 9 replicas of himself. Seeing Yamaraja confused, he laughs within. Yamaraja criticises the sculptor and he gets caught.
One time I was listening to Srila Prabhupada speak in France. He was saying time will destroy everything. One time Napoleon is adored in France. Here is France, where is your Napoleon now. Nobody thought Roman empire, Greek empire will perish. Even British empire, one time it was said “sun never sets on the British empire”. Now they occupy an island and “the sun never rises on the empire”.
Just like in krsna-lila, Krsna was stealing butter. So the neighboring friends of Yasoda-mata, was complaining… It is not a complaint; it was just to see the fun of Krsna. Krsna was sitting, and they were complaining. They were seeing the bodily feature, how Krsna is feeling. So other ladies complaining, “Mother Yasoda, your son comes to our house and steals butter. You see. We try to conceal them in a darkness so that this boy cannot see. But still He finds out. So better you take away
Sridhara Svami says that “This process is for giving liberation from all kinds of material bondage.” Akhilasya bandhasya muktaye tam anusmara smrtya varnayata.(?) And again Sridhara Svami gives note herewith that “Not only you meditate, but you preach. That will help your meditation.” Just like I am speaking to you. I am meditating simultaneously. Unless I remember, how can I speak to you? Unless my attention is concentrated without any diversion in Krsna subject matter, how can I speak to you? So that is also samadhi. Don’t think that one who is
Bhaktivinoda Thakura, the father of sankirtana movement within two hundred years. He was acarya and a householder, grhastha. He was very responsible officer, magistrate, householder. But he was a great devotee. Not only devote, acarya in the line of Caitanya Mahaprabhu disciplic succession, acarya. So he sung, ye dine grhete bhajana dekhi, grhete goloka bhaya: “The day whenever we find there is bhajana,” means worshiping the Supreme Lord, “at that time immediately the house becomes Vaikuntha.” Actually, that is so. Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrndavana is not material things.
So this practice should be adopted. Don’t waste time. As much as possible, try to hear about this transcendental subject matter, Bhagavatam. Yad vaisnavanam priyam. It is stated that “The Srimad-Bhagavatam is very, very dear to the Vaisnavas, to the devotees.” In Vrndavana, you will find, they are always reading Srimad-Bhagavatam. That is their life and soul. So now we have got already six volumes, and further… How many? Eight volumes are coming? So you will have enough stock. So you should read. Sravanam kirtanam visnoh. That is the main business.
If you have got some time, the best thing would be to chant Hare Krishna more and more. Because our life is very short, and we have to finish our Krishna Consciousness this life very quickly. We do not know when we shall meet our next death, our next exit from this platform. But before going out of this platform, we may try to finish Krishna Consciousness. That is our main business.
Prabhupada: Oh. Oh. We have got an idea of thunderbird. The bird flies in the, near the cloud in expectation of water, and they are not afraid of thunder. That is called cataka. That example is given by Rupa Gosvami. The cataka does not take water from ground. They will take water when it falls from the cloud. So in the beginning of every cloud there is thunder. So this bird, because they expecting water from the cloud, the cloud is giving him thunder, but still he does not, will not take water from
As they passed the shuffleboard courts and the old men playing checkers, Prabhupāda stopped and turned to the boys. “Just see,” he said. “Old people in this country do not know what to do. So they play like children, wasting their last days, which should be meant for developing Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Their children are grown and gone away, so this is a natural time for spiritual cultivation. But no. They get some cat or dog, and instead of serving God, they serve dog. It is most unfortunate. But they will not listen.
Devotee: “It says in the scriptures that Lord Brahma rides on a swan. Do we take this to mean it’s a real swan, or is it symbolic?”
Prabhupada: “Not symbolic, it is fact. Why do you say symbolic?”
Devotee: “Because it’s rather unusual.”
Prabhupada: “Unusual? What experience have you got? (laughter) You have no experience. Have you got experience of other planetary systems, what is there? Your experience is very tiny. So you should not calculate Brahma’s life and other things by your tiny experience…Your experience is nothing. Therefore, you
